Instructions for taking digital Images for US Visa Applications

Head size

The head height or facial region size (measured from the top of the head, including the hair, to the bottom of the chin) must be between 50% and 69% of the image’s total height. The eye height (measured from the bottom of the image to the level of the eyes) should be between 56% and 69% of
the image’s height.

Image pixel dimensions must be in a square aspect ratio (meaning the height must be equal to the width).

Minimum acceptable dimensions are 600 pixels (width) x 600 pixels (height). Maximum acceptable dimensions are 1200 pixels (width) x 1200 pixels (height). The photo must be taken within the last 6 months. The photo must be saved in a high quality resolution (jpeg; jpg) and delivered by email.

Well-Composed Photos

Important Note

1. If photo is printed (!): A 5 x 5cm color photograph must be printed on high quality photo paper and taken within the last 6 months, for each applicant regardless of age.

2. The photograph must be taken against a white background, with applicant facing the camera directly, having a neutral facial expression, ears are exposed, no dark glasses nor head covering (unless the applicant‘s religion prohibits the absence of a head covering).

3. The face should cover 50 percent of the area of the photo.

4. The photo must be scanned in a high quality resolution (jpeg; jpg) and delivered by email.
